Bishop

Most Rev. Rex Cullingham Ramirez, D.D., is the second Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Naval. Appointed by Pope Francis on October 13, 2017, he was ordained and installed as Bishop of Naval in January 2018.

Born on December 15, 1967, in Balangiga, Eastern Samar, Bishop Ramirez pursued his priestly formation at the Sacred Heart Seminary in Palo and later studied theology at the Loyola School of Theology in Manila. He further continued his studies in Rome at the Pontifical Athenaeum of Saint Anselm, where he specialized in Liturgy.

He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Palo and served in various pastoral, academic, and administrative ministries, including as Rector of the Sacred Heart Seminary and Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Palo before his episcopal appointment.

As Bishop of Naval, Bishop Ramirez has been known for his commitment to pastoral care, clergy formation, youth ministry, social action, and healthcare initiatives, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also served as Chairman of the Episcopal Commission on Health Care of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

Guided by his episcopal motto, “In Spiritu et Veritate” (“In Spirit and in Truth”), Bishop Ramirez continues to lead the Diocese of Naval in faith, service, and evangelization.
